Waubeeka CC in Williamstown was the 22nd course in my quest to play every course in the state. When I called to make my tee time I was greeted with “Its a beautiful day at Waubeeka.” This is their slogan and today lived up to the billing. Another amazing fall morning as the foliage heads out to the court for lay-ups, it’s just getting warmed up... Wabukeeka is ultimately a tale of two nines. The front winds through the flat, quieter part of the property. There’s a bit more length to the holes, but less intrigue. The highlight is the par 3 seventh, a hint of what lies ahead on the back nine. The back nine starts with a big par three of 235 from the tips. It’s a gateway to the hills the player is about to traverse for the next 7 holes. The the 13th is a fun, short par four - Unreachable in two, even though the card might say 310. The second shot is up to an elevated green. 14 and 16 are really good par 3s, and the 17th is a gentle par 5 back down to the flatlands where the short 18th hole brings you home. This course slowly builds up during the round. A slow start, nothing outstanding, and then some excellent holes and greens that would make anyone’s palm a tad sweaty. If you’re looking for a little golf get away, Taconic and Waubeeka would be a phenomenal, low key duo for a weekend of 54 or 72 holes.
